Hi lovelies,

Thanks so much for reading my blog! I'm sorry I have been absolutely worthless with updating the last couple months. School is so intense, it leaves no room for all the goofing off I used to do :( In the meantime, I have managed to update my Tumblr a couple times a week with some random thoughts, photos, and fashion bits. Please check there if you are interested in keeping up with me: xoxosweetheart.tumblr.com

Do you ever feel...

tired of the game? It's like... every time I go out either I can't wait to be somewhere else or he can't wait to be somewhere else. Usually the former. I can only take so much, when is this going to change? I don't like hurting people and I don't like being hurt.

Cleopatra

I didn't get to go out for Halloween this year because I was sick. I had been planning on dressing up as Cleopatra for a while, a la Elizabeth Taylor:

Well sick or not, I got bored and finished making my slutty Cleopatra outfit:

Obviously I’m missing makeup and accessories, but I’m pleased. Can it be Halloween again now? I guess I can just wear it next year, and maybe I can con some sweet young man into going as my Marc Anthony :)

And Some Lighter Fare

In my downtime this weekend, I spent quite a lot of time checking out my friends' fun Halloween costumes and browsing fashion blogs. I found this amazing Christian Siriano cocktail dress (Spring 2010):

I love love love the mirrors and nude color.

Tonight I watched The September Issue, a film following the production of Vogue's most important annual issue. If you are a bad little bunny and weren't able to catch it in theaters, you can watch it online here. Anna Wintour has never given such access to the inner workings of her magazine and it's fascinating to see how everything comes together (for me at least).

In my illness induced boredom I was inspired to go pick up a sewing machine! I sewed half of a slutty Cleopatra costume, but sadly was unable to wear it as I was a complete zombie Halloween night.
I'm still working on finishing it in the hopes that someone will have a costume party and I can make up for missing my favorite holiday of the year.

Happy November!

On the Flu...

I've been laid up with the flu since Friday night. It's funny but school has been so intense that being sick has almost felt like a vacation. I can't remember the last time I slept this much or spent so much time not studying. Today is my last day off before I have to get back to business, so I'm back to the books, studying diabetes, thyroid diseases, and other hormonal diseases.

“It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” — Mark Twain

Everyone has something to say about the flu vaccine, and I'd like to clear up some things. A few facts: the CDC estimates that seasonal flu kills 36,000 people in the US every year and this year will likely be increased due to H1N1. The seasonal flu vaccine is formulated each year based on which strains of flu scientists predict will be most virulent that season, and this is exactly how the H1N1 vaccine was formulated. By proxy, it is just as safe as the normal flu shot.

It makes me so mad to see people (*cough*Jenny McCarthy*cough*) using the media's dependence on ratings to sell sensational stories about vaccine dangers without any scientific background. These unsubstantiated stories have caused nearly half of parents to be afraid of giving their children regular vaccinations, which will inevitably lead to preventable deaths. The risk of serious side effects from the vaccine are literally 1 in 2 million. I understand the fear stemming from inexplicably rising rates of Autism, but for God's sake, don't put yourself at risk for an even worse disease on the bet that this may cause it. And by "may" I mean won't, because there have been comprehensive studies aimed at addressing the Autism link and they found NO connection. Not only are people putting themselves at risk by rejecting vaccinations, they are putting everyone around them at risk.

Moral of the story: consider the source, do your own research, and form your own opinions. All of the sources I've provided are either CDC, Journal of American Medical Association, or New York Times. Sure if you go to SallysDailyHogwash.com, she'll tell you the vaccine will give you zombieosis fatalis. So... either you agree with me or you're going to turn into a zombie. Your choice.

"A kiss is a lovely trick designed to stop speech when words become unnecessary." -Ingrid Bergman

I'm enjoying my first lazy weekend since the start of grad school. I was a bit naughty and got myself a two gorgeous pairs of shoes from Zara:
But I mean really, really, how could I not buy them?? I was quite impressed with how on trend Zara is now. Last time I went was in Manchester and their selection was positively boring.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have spend some much needed time by my pool :)
